Grief Has Many Faces
Grief is real. We should expect emotions to slump in the face of difficulty and disappointment.
However, there are many things that go beyond the brief sagging of our emotions. When we experience loss that leads to grief the intensity to the individual can be displayed in a multitude of ways.
To some it may have a blank look, yet to others the same loss may cause deep suffering with uncontrollable sobbing, while still others may experience profound pain and stuff the feelings for fear of being out of control with their emotions.
There is Life Beyond Loss
Recently, I had a woman say after the death of her husband that “My life is over.” While I know her comment reflected the deep sense of loss she was experiencing at the moment she was speaking, I wanted her to know there is hope. Once a person takes the correct steps to work through the significant loss, they can look up and see a new future they might enjoy.
Many transitions in life are extremely difficult since they force us into an unknown and uncomfortable place in our life, yet we all need a way to keep from getting stuck in a state of despair.
Spring is a transition – a time of waking up from the drab lifelessness of winter. It is a time of renewal of everything around us. Perhaps it’s time for you, or someone you know, to lift your head, look up and get a glimpse of the life that can be your bright future.
The Grief & Wellness Group is in the business of leading individuals through the steps that will complete the pain and disappointment of the past and help renew the hope and outlook for the future.
