RECENTLY I discovered what now has become my all-time favorite Peanuts cartoon. The cartoon picture looks like this. . .Charlie Brown and his BFF dog, Snoopy, are sitting at the end of a long, lake pier. Both are staring out at the mirror-like water while reflecting on LIFE ! Charlie says to his friend, “Some day we will all die, Snoopy!” After a moment, Snoopy responds. “True, but on all the other days, we will Not!”
AS a Grief Recovery Specialist, I love this deep and profound conversation between two good friends. You see, Charlie Brown is simply stating a fact; no fake news here! All of us ‘will’ face death one day. In fact, all of us are daily grieving death and many other losses as we interact with all the people around us. But, Snoopy, with his water dish half full, reminds Charlie Brown about ‘all the other days’ in their future.
SNOOPY’S reminder to Charlie Brown, and to each one of us, is to live life fully; with our water glasses half full! Life is so daily, but when we CHOOSE to live life with hope and anticipation, we will experience freedom in our future.
THIS is what Grief Recovery is all about: Grieving losses of the past and present, healing broken hearts, facilitating action to help complete the emotional pain. Most of all, choosing recovery in order to live fully and freely ‘On All the Other Days’ of your life!
