The Original Non-Stick Pan

The Fourth of July 2016 was a major landmark in our family history.  Bobbie and I traveled back to St Louis to bury my Mother.

Life requires each of us to go through many transitions.  Some of those transitions are by choice like a move to a new city, graduation from high school (yes that really is a choice), career changes, etc.  While other transitions such as the death of a loved one, divorce, illnesses, and loss of jobs are transitions we would not choose to have to go through.

On June 26th Mom made her final earthly transition from life on earth to heaven, because of her strong faith in Christ.  On July 5th family and friends gathered to say good-bye to the earthly presence Mom had with each of us and celebrated the life and joy she shared with each one.

Let me Tell You about What I Inherited

I inherited a very tangible gift from Mom, her 10 inch cast iron skillet (the original non-stick skillet).  It is the same skillet that Mom used to fix three meals a day, for the 21 years that I shared the same home with the family.  Probably some 20,000 meals each prepared with great creativity and all served with love with very little expression of appreciation for her labors in return.

The Gift that Keeps on Giving

This cast iron skillet has become a prized possession not because of the high resale value it could bring but because every time I use it I am putting my hand where Mom’s hand held the skillet so many times, sharing her love with family.

Every time I cook with that old skillet it floods my memory with the lessons about life growing up.  Teaching me practical things like how to prepare a meal, the correct way to do my laundry so while in college I wouldn’t end up with pink underwear from mixing my colors (of course that was a time when it was still popular to wear underwear under cover rather than in plain sight).  These practical lessons have served me all my life.

I only hope that my family can enjoy and appreciate the 60+ years of seasoning that has gone into that old skillet before it was passed along to me.

I am able to retain these delightful memories without the pain of Mom’s absence because of The Grief Recovery Method.  The Grief and Wellness Group will help you to move beyond the pain that often accompanies loss, as we give you the tools to do the same.

Transitions, Changes, Losses, Heart Breaks are all a part of this life’s journey.  The hard part is to separate the pain that often accompanies a loss from those positive realities that we have experienced with those relationships we have formed.

The Grief & Wellness Group has helped many already.  We will teach you how to grieve and move beyond loss.  Your life will be enriched with the personal new discoveries you’re guaranteed to receive.

We have two new groups starting in a few weeks, Tuesday August 16th at 10 am and Wednesday August 17th at 6:30 pm.  Each class lasts for two hours each week for a total of eight weeks.  You can choose to move beyond the loss rather than allow it to hold you captive.    Don’t Delay Give us a Call Today 520 668-5906.
